Broken wheels, storm conditions and a superb support team!

Whilst the UK endured ‘Storm Gareth’ this weekend, our very own cycling force, Gareth Atkinson continued on his Club Peloton, Cycle to MIPIM in aid of children’s charity Coram.

The weekend, known as Day 3 and Day 4 was business as usual for the 200 riders and they rode out in tough conditions from the start. Saturday saw an early start as the Folkestone route peloton headed towards Dijon in the relentless head wind and frequent showers. Then, Sunday saw the downpours continue and some steep climbs as they headed towards Valence. Gareth’s bike also suffered as a result of a 4 man pile up which saw them all in the end fall on his bike. Luckily everyone appears to be ok, though the same can’t be said for Gareth’s wheel. Thank goodness for the amazing Club Peloton support teams who keep everyone fed, watered, moving, as pain free as possible and fix any issues quickly.

Whilst we haven’t actually managed to speak to Gareth yet, as he’s been too busy tackling as many stages as possible, from the pictures he is still very much smiling and enjoying the camaraderie. Today as they head towards the 243km stretch to Aix en Provence in strong cross winds, Gareth has far cycled over 150km in 6 hours. Thanks to everyone who has supported Gareth and donated so far.
