MIPIM Day 2 – sunshine, boats and lots of meetings!

Day 2, Wednesday for Civic Engineers at MIPIM saw the sun shining and a diary packed full of meetings, events and dinners.

For our London Director, Rob, the day started with some networking and breakfast on the beach. For Stephen it began with attending the Scottish Cities Alliance event on ‘Smart Cities’, particularly relevant given the opening of our Scottish studio last year and our work on the ‘Avenues’ project in Glasgow city centre. At lunchtime, after successfully securing a table at a restaurant (a real challenge in MIPIM week), we hosted a lunch for a number of our clients, collaborators and contacts. It was great to see them all to catch up and for some of them to meet new contacts.

The afternoon saw London Director Gareth arrive and Stephen head off out to sea with the Place North West team amongst others, at least his boat got further than the quay, unlike Rob’s did the day before. Meanwhile Julian, Gareth and Rob ventured to cocktails on the beach and to hear some of the various stand sessions on the Leeds, London and Manchester stands.

As the sun went down, Julian attended the AR Future Project Awards Dinner with Hawkins Brown, where we had been shortlisted for the Rutland Mills, Wakefield project. Sadly we didn’t win but it was great for the project to make the shortlist. Stephen attended what was an excellent Manchester dinner and our London Directors were spotted at the Overbury drinks in the Irish pub! Seems like the most was made of the sunny day, particularly with rain forecast for Thursday.
