60-62 Lombard Street

60-62 Lombard Street is the Grade 2 listed former Headquarters of the Trustee Savings Bank, and stands adjoining the Grade 1 listed Wren church, St Edmund, King and Martyr.

In the 1980s the building was substantially rebuilt as a steel framed structure behind the retained masonry façade and was in need of another significant overhaul.

Civic Engineers worked with Buckley Grey Yeoman architects for the refurbishment of the property which included adding an additional storey and rooftop plant enclosure. It was a sensitive proposal due to the adjoining church and the massing was therefore carefully developed not to diminish the existing views. Significant alterations to the cores included adding another lift; removal of the secondary escape stairs and associated cross bracing. At the lower levels, alterations to the mezzanine and ground floor slabs were required to get light into the lower ground; the creation of a double height entrance lobby whilst maintaining floor areas.
