South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre

Civic Engineers are appointed as Structural and Civil Engineers by Citybranch on this Health and Wellbeing Centre, a new-build development to provide the community with public health services, local GP practices, and pharmacy, café and library facility, to replace the now decommissioned Altrincham General Hospital situated in the heart of Altrincham’s Old Market Place Conservation Area.

The development comprises a four storey steel framed structure with a single storey basement which occupies the entire site and provides car parking facilities for the building. Complexities in the design included responding to the complex variation in the façade strategy and geometry of the architectural scheme as well as developing a buildable proposal constructed in close proximity to adjacent buildings within a bustling town centre environment. In addition to this, we have carefully integrated the reconstructed façade of the original Principal Hospital frontage into the new build facade which holds significance to the Old Market Place conservation area. The centre falls within the wider public realm scheme we have been working on in the town centre for Trafford that connects the station to the market.

Construction commenced in 2016 and was completed in October 2018.
