Burlington House, Manchester
This exciting 11 storey development comprises three main blocks twisting on plan as the building increases with height.
The rotation results in the upper two tiers cantilevering out over one other up to 9m from supports, providing a striking architectural form. Our role as structural engineers has been to achieve this challenging form with an in-situ concrete framed structure with minimal transfer structure.
Requiring close consultation with English Heritage and the Canal and Rivers Trust, the project abuts the Grade II* listed Jackson’s Warehouse and completes the enclosure of the Piccadilly Marina designed by Civic Engineers (Formerly Stockley) for Town Centre Securities.
The project continues the trend for contemporary city centre living and is aimed at reinforcing the Piccadilly Basin’s links with the vibrant Northern Quarter adjacent.
The project received planning permission in September 2014.
