The Fort, Birmingham

We are working alongside Piper Whitlock Architects by providing structural and civil engineering input on the redevelopment of The Fort Shopping Centre in Birmingham. The first phase of the masterplan involves the £1.3 million redevelopment of three shop units, enhancing the shop front visibility and providing alterations to suit the new tenants.

The existing structure consists of a steel frame with roof trusses. The front most bay of the steel frame is being demolished and replaced with a new steel frame which allows for a more open shop front with full height glazing and a new high-level canopy.

The main challenges on the project included the fast design programme, replacing the existing stability system as part of the new structure and contamination found within the ground.

he first phase started on site in February 2018 and with completion in June 2018. The scheme to replace the existing front facades will be rolled out across the site as part of future phases of the redevelopment masterplan.
