Claire Young

Associate and Sustainability Lead

I am a chartered structural engineer and Sustainability Lead for Civic Engineers. Passionate about working towards a more sustainable and low carbon world, I work to play my part as an engineer and a designer. I am appointed to the Institution of Structural Engineers’ Sustainability Panel and work internally to drive innovation and embed sustainable thinking and the circular economy into our work as “business as usual”.

During my time at Civic Engineers, I have worked on large scale projects including educational buildings, residential developments and the Shepperton Studios expansion as well as listed building refurbishments and public realm design. I have also worked on challenging temporary works schemes to support existing buildings undergoing structural alterations. This experience early on in my career has really helped to deepen my understanding of construction methods and the buildability of complex structures.

I am a keen sketcher and pride myself on creating clear and informative drawings that convey designs, ideas and complex details.

In my free time I have a variety of hobbies to keep me entertained. I spend as much time outdoors as I can, in all weathers, be that on a bike, skis, a boat or my own two feet. Songwriting is one of my greatest loves and alongside my guitars Amber and Cherry I have even released a few songs online over the years!
