I’m Michael from County Derry and recently joined Civic Engineers in January 2017. With a university background in Construction Engineering and Landscape Architecture I’m passionate about high quality placemaking, for both people and nature.
My work experience to date has covered both the practical and research side of urban design. Following my masters in 2010 I moved to Toronto, Canada and joined a landscape architecture practice, working on projects across North America and the Middle East.
Upon my return to the UK I joined CIRIA (Construction Industry Research and Information Association) as a Project Manager, delivering good practice guidance in biodiversity, green infrastructure and water sensitive urban design.
Outside of work I like to travel, explore markets around London and stay fit by going to the gym, swimming and playing tag rugby. I’m a huge sports fan, will watch anything but without doubt my favourite sport is Gaelic (Irish) Football. I’m very close to my family and like to spend time with my nephews and niece whenever possible.
I’m really excited about my future at Civic Engineers and the following quote from the esteemed English poet William Blake inspires me:
‘The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.’
