Tom Murphy

Infrastructure Engineer

Hello, I’m Tom, originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, and I have recently joined the Infrastructure team of Civic Engineers in the Leeds Studio.

I graduated from Leeds University in 2009 and then returned to my native Newcastle to work for Arup in their Civils team. I was lucky enough to get a six-month work transfer to move to Johannesburg in South Africa, and after joining a local firm, I ended up living and working in SA for five years. I’m now back in the UK adjusting to life and quickly losing my tan. Outside of work I watch a lot of sport, mainly Cricket and Football. Unfortunately, I’m a Newcastle United supporter, which has only brought me years of misery. I also like to travel and I just got back from a trip around Botswana in a 4×4, surviving a baboon raid and getting stuck in an embarrassingly small mud puddle in the process.

I’m looking forward to getting stuck into proper Civil design again at Civic and I’m hoping to use my international experience to add an extra edge to the Leeds team.
