Civic Heritage expands team with archaeological consultant appointment

Archaeological and built heritage experts Civic Heritage have strengthened their team with the appointment of Natalie Poundall as Archaeological Consultant in Manchester.

Natalie has over three years’ experience in archaeology and heritage consultancy and joins from Salford Archaeology, where she specialised in historic environment, environmental impact and archaeological desk-based assessments for a diverse range of sites across the UK. In her new role, Natalie will conduct a variety of archaeological and heritage assessments to advise clients, enabling them to meet planning obligations concerning the historic environment. This will help Civic Heritage continue its growth across the UK and Ireland, ensuring projects progress smoothly and effectively.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for the company, which has seen rapid expansion since its launch in September 2024. Founded by Ollie Cook and Katie Fletcher, Civic Heritage has grown rapidly to a team of six, after recently welcoming Senior Archaeologists, Steve Tamburello, Richard Ker, and Project Manager, Lewis Stitt, with plans for further team growth in 2025.

The launch of the new venture is the latest growth milestone for Civic since it was established in 2022.

Civic is carefully curated team of system thinkers in the built environment. It was set up to enable new complementary service offerings and to provide opportunities for growth, with the ultimate aim of achieving greater social and environmental impact so clients can benefit from an increased variety of services and exceptional quality project work.

Natalie is passionate about making heritage and archaeology accessible to future generations and local communities. Alongside her project work, she conducts interactive school visits, bringing history to life through hands-on lessons that engage and educate students about archaeological discoveries. She also participates in college career days, inspiring the next generation of heritage professionals by sharing insights into the field and its impact.

Katie Fletcher, director of Civic Heritage, said:
“Welcoming another member to our team within the first year of Civic Heritage is incredibly exciting. Natalie’s expertise and experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow and expand our services. This appointment reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality heritage and archaeological assessments on projects across the UK, and reflects our growth across the North and Midlands. Our collaborative approach not only enhances efficiency for clients but also reflects our dedication to sustainable heritage management and preserving the past for future generations.”

Natalie Poundall added:
“It is such an exciting time to be joining Civic Heritage during this period of growth. I can’t wait to contribute my expertise and collaborate with the team on a diverse range of projects. I’m especially passionate about making heritage accessible to communities and look forward to engaging with clients and stakeholders”

Recent projects reflect Civic Heritage’s expertise and growing influence in the sector. The team recently carried out an archaeological desk-based assessment at Lancots Lane, Sutton, to support a planning application for redevelopment. In Eccles, Salford, they conducted a laser scan point cloud survey of Monks Hall, helping generate precise drawings for the project team following a devastating fire. Additionally, the team led an excavation at Fairfax Road Fire Station as part of the regeneration project to sustainably transform Prestwich Village.
