Gingerbread City Dream Team

Gingerbread City is back and a dedicated team from our London studio have teamed up to bake the world a better place.

Gingerbread City, an annual exhibition where architects, designers and engineers create an entire city made of gingerbread, opened to the general public over the weekend with more than 100 individual gingerbread structures created as part of the showcase.

The aim of the exhibition is to connect the public with architecture through an innovative display designed to get everyone feeling Christmassy along with raising money to support London’s Museum of Architecture as a charity. The last Gingerbread City saw 30,000 people attend and the hope is this year’s will surpass even those numbers.

With Polly, Ffion, Max, Heba, Liz, Georgie, Harriet, Candice, Tom and Shubham from our London studio making up our dream team, they headed to the official opening day of the exhibition over the weekend to see their masterpiece in its full glory.

Sharing more details on their very own bake-off challenge, Polly said: “November was very busy for us, with a lot of our spare time dedicated to getting ready for Gingerbread City! We started with a sketching session to come up with our design, thinking about what edible construction materials we could use and how to best respond to our brief and the floodplain environment in which our site is situated. Our design was realised after a jam-packed day of baking and several after-work construction/decoration sessions. It’s been great fun and was lovely to see our creation on display at the exhibition.”

The theme of this year’s exhibition focuses on ‘Nature in the City and Re-Wilding’. Each island in the masterplan is a different natural environment and includes a range of landscapes, buildings and infrastructure plots to choose from. Gingerbread City is open now and runs until the 9th January, with tickets still available to attend. Included in the ticket price is festive gingerbread house-making workshops that take place every day during the exhibition, in case you’re inspired by our team’s amazing work!
