Sponsoring Cycle to MIPIM 2022

With just over 7 weeks to go until over 90 cyclists set off on the challenging Knight Frank Cycle to MIPIM, we are pleased to announce that we will be supporting the Club Peloton charity cycle event as team sponsors. We won’t just be sponsoring the team, however: our London Director, Gareth Atkinson will be taking on the ride for a second time but this time as a Ride Captain, and our North Director, James Bruce will be taking on the 1500km cycle for the first time.

The fully-supported ride sets off from London on 9th March and will see the cyclists head across the channel and wind their way through France, arriving in Cannes for the start of MIPIM on Tuesday, 15th March. The 1438km journey is run as a relay, with each rider in the saddle for around 80km, twice a day.

To take part in the ride, each participant has to raise a minimum of £3,000. The fundraising supports a number of projects, all of which work to transform the lives of vulnerable young people. This support includes recruiting families for children to find adoptive homes and assisting families with post-adoption support via Coram Adoption; awarding bikes, tandems and adapted trikes to children and young people affected by cancer via Cyclists Fighting Cancer; tackling the root causes of violent street crime via the Top Ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust; and assisting the children of families living with a loved one with MSA via the Multiple System Atrophy Trust.

Here’s what soon to be Ride Captain, Gareth Atkinson had to say about what he was looking forward to, “I’m really up for tackling the cycle again. Not only is it a real challenge, it also raises funds for a number of worthwhile causes. I had a fantastic experience last time and met a brilliant bunch of people that I have remained friends with, and what’s more I also get to collaborate with in the industry. It’s a real privilege to be made a Ride Captain for this year and I’m looking forward to getting to know our team better and helping them in any way I can.”

Meanwhile, first-time Cycle to MIPIM rider, our North Director James Bruce said, “My training is well underway and I’m really looking forward to the cycle, in particular getting to meet people and being able to spend some time with them as we make our way down to Cannes. It’s obviously handy hearing about Gareth’s experience and I know there are going to be some tough bits, the weather we might face is one bit I’m not particularly looking forward to. Having said that, what more could you want other than 7 days riding your bike!”

Nick Hanmer, Chief Executive of Club Peloton, added, “We’re really pleased to be collaborating with and have the support of the Civic Engineers team.”

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be following James and Gareth as they prepare for the ride and raise funds. If you would like to support them, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/team/civicengineers
