Andrew Peebles

Senior Structural Engineer

I graduated from Glasgow University with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Architecture and started my career on site as a temporary works engineer for a concrete contractor.  It wasn’t just the structures that were temporary as shortly after I joined a design consultancy in South East England as a structural engineer.  Whilst there I gained design experience in the residential and educational sectors in all structural materials but primarily timber.

After a few years I was offered the opportunity to transfer to the newly formed Glasgow Studio where I have been able to further develop my design skills whilst working towards chartership with the IStructE. I continue to spread my knowledge of offsite timber frame; such as open/closed panel timber, CLT & glulam.  Heed this warning: I may inadvertently jump into lecture mode if you mention timber frame – any of the following bribes will be readily accepted should you wish a reprieve: cup of tea, Mexican or Italian food, your finest single malt…

I am a huge fan of live music (mainly rock/blues/prog flavoured) and will scout out venues wherever I find myself.  Living near London for a few years was a huge boon to my roster of gigs/festivals and a welcome distraction at weekends. If I find myself without a gig to go to; my trusty record player, pictured, comes to the rescue.  You’ll also notice a guitar in the background of the photo – it’s pretty much cosmetic at the moment. My current method of learning to play comprises of keeping it in my room and absorbing its aura while I sleep.  Not effective.

I also enjoy running and cycling having taken part in Pedal for Scotland for the past two years in a row.
