Graduate Engineer

I’m a recent graduate from the University of Sheffield where I studied Civil Engineering and am currently working in the Urban Infrastructures team in Leeds. I grew up in Exeter so was always surrounded by water and the seaside, which really influenced my interest in Civil Engineering and how I can use my skills to positively impact the built environment.

It was a module I had at Uni that really sparked my interest in Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and natural flood defenses and approaching engineering projects in a more sustainable and “out-of-the-box” way. I’ve always lived near the country side so I’m really interested in the idea of being able to make urban spaces “greener” and bringing nature in while also treating and attenuating storm water. I love the fact that there isn’t a right or wrong answer when it comes to natural drainage systems, and that you can use your imagination and problem solving skills to work out the best solution.

In my spare time I’m either trying out a new recipe (when it’s not raining) or I like to make the most of living next to the Peak District and will usually be out walking or cycling around the peaks villages. This is a spot I go to often overlooking the village of Bradfield. When it’s sunny you can also see the Derwent Reservoir!
