Ross Murphy

Senior Engineer

I am a Principal Civil Engineer working in the Urban Infrastructure Team in Glasgow and joined Civic Engineers in August 2021. My early career combined working as an Engineering Technician whilst undertaking a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Civil Engineering before continuing as a Graduate Engineer in the highways sector of a large design consultancy following graduation in 2011. From here I gained experience within the renewables energy sector where I became an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in 2016. Current experience has been within the development infrastructure sector, gaining the knowledge required to pass my Chartered Professional Review with the ICE which allowed me to register as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

My experience includes the technical delivery of civil infrastructure designs including schools and commercial developments from feasibility stage, through detailed design and onto construction. I have a sound understanding of roads and drainage design standards including knowledge of Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS).

I enjoy the challenges associated with urban infrastructure design including spatial co-ordination, technical detailing and compliance with planning policies which can become complex due to site-specific constraints. Working with multi-disciplinary teams and different stakeholders across different sectors allows me to deliver successful and high-quality designs.

Outside of work I enjoy activities to keep fit including running, attending the gym, and cycling. I have completed a couple of half marathons and took part in a 4x4x40 running challenge for charity which involves running 4 miles every 4 hours over a 40-hour period. See photograph below where we look surprisingly fresh when met for our last 4 mile run through a sunny Glasgow Green.
