Hello, I’m Tom, originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, and am part of the Urban Infrastructure team in the Leeds Studio.
I graduated from Leeds University in 2009 and then returned to my native Newcastle to work for Arup in their Civils team. I was lucky enough to get a six-month work transfer to move to Johannesburg in South Africa, and after joining a local firm, I ended up living and working in SA for five years. I’m now back in the UK and enjoying working on a range of Infrastructure projects with Civic Engineers in their Leeds Studio
Outside of work I watch a lot of sport, mainly Cricket and Football. Unfortunately, I’m a Newcastle United fan, which has only brought me years of misery. To help with the misery, I brew my own beer, with varying success. I also like to travel, and I just got back from a self-drive 4×4 trip around Namibia in Southern Africa.
The image below is the map we used on our Namibian trip. It was key to deciding the route we travelled on our trip and made sure we got to all the essential stops on our way. I believe maps like these are a real feat of engineering and this map became the guide to my life for a couple of weeks.
