Cannon Green, London
Cannon Green is an office development built in the 1960s in the heart of the City of London. The buildings are undergoing a complete overhaul to upgrade the space to modern standards. Civic Engineers are appointed by Ocubis as Structural Engineers on the project.
The development comprises two towers of 11 and 8 storeys with a triple basement below the entire site. Once the refurbishment is complete, the building will provide up to 90,000 sq ft of lettable Grade A offices together with a 5,000 sq ft restaurant/bar with large terrace, and a 20,000 sq ft gym.
A key part of the proposals is a new double height entrance added at ground floor. This wraparound extension comprises architectural steelwork and glass and contains a feature staircase in slender fair-faced concrete. Finite element analysis has been used to model the complex geometry and optimise the structural components.
Other alterations include adding 2 storeys of office space to each tower and various internal alterations to reorganise the circulation and services systems, where new demands have been created by the introduction of the restaurant and gym.
