Ali Tunnah brings a wealth of experience and a passion for innovative engineering solutions to her role as Regional Director for Structures in Scotland at Civic Engineers. With a career spanning over two decades, Ali’s journey began in 2000 following a brief foray into architecture, giving her a unique perspective on the interplay between design and engineering. She started her career with an apprenticeship in civil engineering, gaining hands-on experience that shaped her practical and solution-focused approach. A keen advocate of alternative training routes, Ali is passionate about promoting apprenticeships and other pathways to unlock opportunities in the profession.

Ali honed her skills during a 15-year tenure at Scottish Borders Council, where she gained invaluable experience managing diverse projects in flood prevention, asset management, bridge maintenance, and roads construction. In 2015, she moved with her family to Stirling and joined global architectural and engineering consultancy IDOM, ultimately serving as Business Director for the UK. This was followed by two years as Director at Blyth & Blyth before she joined Civic Engineers, where she now leads the charge in delivering sustainable and community-focused structures across Scotland.

A dedicated professional, Ali is committed to continuous learning. Her time training with the Institute of Directors (IoD), where she achieved distinctions in business, reflects her drive for excellence as she works toward chartership.

Outside of work, Ali embraces life to the fullest in a small Stirlingshire village with her partner Jon, children Quinn and Annabelle, dog Daisy, cat Luna, and two lovebirds (though she’s adamant—no more pets!). An avid traveller, Ali is always on the lookout for new adventures and is especially excited to hit the road in her new VW camper this spring, exploring Scotland’s stunning landscapes and beyond. When she’s not traveling, Ali loves to cook, finding joy in feeding friends and family and creating a warm, welcoming space filled with laughter, great food, and cherished memories.
