The Manchester International Festival is a biennial event that showcases original, new work across all art forms during a two week period in July that celebrates Manchester’s pivotal role in music, culture, innovation and the arts.

Our role within the Festival is to provide engineering-related assistance to aid the organisers and facilitate the smooth running of both the festival and the festival legacy.

As part of the 2009 festival deconstructivist sculptor Gustav Metzger was commissioned to produce an original work, ‘ Flailing Trees’. Flailing Trees comprises 21 Willow trees, beheaded and inverted leaving their bare roots exposed and ‘flailing’.  We worked with Gustav to found the sculpture and to design and manage its subsequent movement from the Peace Gardens to its permanent location in the grounds of the Whitworth Art Gallery at the conclusion of the Festival.
