We are delighted that one of our London based projects, 2 St James’s Street, has recently been shortlisted for The Award for Structural Heritage  at The 2016 Structural Awards hosted by The Institution of Structural Engineers.

2 St James’s Street was a collaboration with Alan Short, Architect and MJP Architects to provide a new office building for Berry Bros and Rudd wine merchants behind a partly retained facade opposite St James’ Palace on Pall Mall.

The £15m project was a wonderfully demanding project that required us to enable the realisation of new office space and a subterranean hospitality suite whilst working on a site that was landlocked by Grade II listed buildings and London’s oldest Georgian Square.

Some of the approaches we used included cantilevering the circulation stair to minimise intrusion into the core office floorplate, introducing steel flying shores between the party walls to form lateral trusses adjacent to the retained façade and using a hybrid technique to allow the basement excavation to take place swiftly and safely.
