Liverpool Lime Street
We are part of the team that won the invited competition to create a world class public space in front of Lime Street Station, Liverpool, announcing the entrance to the city centre.
Existing buildings in front of the station, including a 13 storey tower block, have been demolished to open up views of the listed station frontage and entrance to the mainline station. The new public realm provides a varying landscape incorporating through and dwell spaces, artwork and planting. High quality paving units have been laid on a rigid concrete base. The significant level change between the station and street level has been worked out through a series of ramps and steps. A slot drainage system has been used to minimise the visual impact on the public realm, tying into a new drainage network which connects into the existing network. A new two storey subway link ties into the existing and provide step free access to the station. The project opened to the public in June 2010.
