King’s Bruton School, Somerset
Civic Engineers has been appointed by King’s Bruton School in association with Levitt Bernstein architects as part of the design team for a new music school.
The design brief is to create a new building for all of the school’s musical facilities, including teaching and rehearsal space, a recital hall and a fully equipped music technology suite with the key requirements of:
– An immediately impressive structure
– The revitalisation of the heart of the oldest part of the school
– Appropriate integration with the historic buildings and green spaces that surround it including the Grade II listed Headmaster’s Tower and boundary retaining wall to the River
The music school is located to the north of the school campus and is a single and double storey building to replace the existing squash court.
The architectural vision for the new building was to incorporate an entrance ‘tower’ that responds to the existing grade II listed Headmasters’ Tower that bounds the development site as well as the adjacent tower of the original school building.
