We are pleased to announce that Senior Engineer, Hannah Rathbone has joined Civic Engineers and will be based in our London studio.

Previously a Structural Design Engineer at Atkins, Hannah’s projects included working on new facilities at London City Airport, a new flood defence management scheme in Ipswich, and both new and existing structures for Farringdon Crossrail Station, Hannah’s favourite project to date due to its historical nature. She also spent a year working on a nuclear new build construction and six months as an assistant project manager for station upgrade works. It is this variety of different roles in a number of sectors that gives Hannah such a wealth of experience and such a diverse skill set.

Having always been engaged by the built environment, Hannah is passionate about the influence that we have on everyday life; from the places in which we live and work, to the way in which we choose to travel.

‘’From a personal perspective, this drives me to deliver the “best” solution I can and to bring as much value as possible to each design challenge.’’

This passion to influence is also seen in her work with the IStructE for which she is part of the Young Members Panel. The panel is a group of young adults, all under 35, who have the responsibility to represent the views of younger members, develop initiatives to support younger members, promote the engineering profession to young people and to liaise with the various functional bodies at the IStructE. This involves meetings, assisting with work study groups and acting as a point of contact for the panel.

‘’Being part of the IStructE Young Members’ Panel gives me the opportunity to play an active role in industry developments and the work of the Institution. As part of my role on the Panel I have also joined the Diversity and Social Inclusion Task Group. The group is reviewing aspects of these topics within the context of the construction industry and the Institution.‘’

Having previously gained experience working on large multidisciplinary infrastructure projects, Hannah says she is really looking forward to getting stuck into more building design at Civic Engineers and hopes to bring her varied experience and holistic approach to design to the projects she will be working on.
