Julian Broster to speak at the 2024 Structural Timber Conference

Our managing director and co-founder Julian Broster has joined the line-up of expert speakers at the 2024 Structural Timber Conference, in partnership with the Structural Timber Association.

Julian will deliver a talk exploring the challenges, opportunities and joy that timber engineering projects provide to those designing and building them, and to their end users, drawing on best practice case studies.

Taking place at 30 Euston Square, London, on Tuesday 16th April, the conference will showcase the latest trends and technologies in structural timber following a year of remarkable achievements and innovations.

Influential speakers at the event will address the challenges and explore the possibilities of timber construction to help drive the industry forward, with a focus on circularity and sustainability.

Commenting ahead of the conference, Julian said: “Building in timber remains an attractive proposition for a variety of typologies in the UK, but over recent years it has become more challenged by regulation, risk as measured by insurers, funders and warranty providers, as well as commercial viability.  Designers, engineers and clients often find their ambition tempered when faced with these challenges, however all is not lost.

“Timber construction has an essential part to play in the transition to Net Zero, and there remains considerable optimism, energy and positive action amongst the timber engineering community. I look forward to joining other leading industry figures in sharing the innovations shaping the future of timber usage.”

The conference will take place in person from 8.30am to 5pm on 16th April. Find out more and book your place here.

Other speakers at the conference include Andrew Carpenter, board member at the Confederation of Timber Industries; Jess Hrivnak, sustainable development adviser at RIBA; Philippa Birch-Wood, local network coordinator at UK Green Building Council and Andrew Orriss, chief operating officer at the Structural Timber Association.
