NLA Retrofit Summit: creativity and collaboration in adaptive reuse

As working patterns have evolved in recent times, approaches to reimagining and adapting single-use offices to serve new purposes and uses have become increasingly important.

To unlock stranded assets and optimise London’s potential commercial space, industry leaders are increasingly opting to retrofit existing buildings.

We champion a ‘Retrofit first’ approach here at Civic Engineers, which is why we’re proud to sponsor the NLA’s upcoming Retrofit Summit alongside shedkm. The summit will take place at The London Centre on 9th October, and you can find more info here.

The programme, due to be announced shortly, will unpick:

  • How buildings can be reimagined to attract new occupants, as some tenants move back to the City of London and others reduce their footprint
  • The tools that can be adopted to reuse building’s fabric, materials and energy responsibly
  • The potential of adaptive reuse and circular principles to inject new life into old buildings, showcasing best practice projects, strategies and programmes

Retrofit and reuse is at the heart of everything we do as we respond to the global climate crisis and strive to reach net zero, and we see creativity and collaboration as crucial to accelerating change.

Some of our retrofit projects include double Stirling Prize-shortlisted Park Hill in Sheffield; The Elephant on Oxford Street, London; Cannon Green in London, Tileyard North in Wakefield and Eden Mill Distillery and Brewery in St Andrews. [Image credit: Tim Crocker].

We look forward to connecting there and continuing this important discussion!
