Stephen O’Malley elected ICE NW Chair

Our Chief Executive, Stephen O’Malley was elected as ICE North West chair at the regional’s recent annual general meeting. Well known as a passionate advocate of sustainability, supporting the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, Stephen believes effective collaboration, with civil engineers valued for their vital skills and experience, is key to achieving sustainable, quality schemes.

In his year ahead as ICE North West Chair, Stephen is keen to promote possibilities. He said: “Without doubt, there is an increased urbanisation and concentration of our settlements.”

“As we navigate this, it means that the potential role that’s presented to the profession – together with the responsibility and opportunity that goes with it – is, quite frankly, huge.”

He believes civil engineers’ technical excellence is key and that there is a real need to embrace collaboration so the value and contribution that engineers can deliver as problem-solvers is celebrated.

“The profession can then begin to act as the as the drivers for change, bringing a higher degree of emotional intelligence to the conversation,” he said.

“In short, my aim is to help share the art of the possible.”

Planning is now underway to deliver a programme of events in support of the newly elected chair’s focus. For more information visit https://www.ice.org.uk
