Supporting National Apprenticeship Week

At Civic Engineers, our apprentices play an important role in our business. Not only do we recruit apprentices in engineering disciplines but we also recruit them in support services such as IT too. Most recently Ben Farmer has joined us as our IT Support Technician in our Manchester office and we have apprentices starting in our London and Leeds offices in July.

Caroline Todd, HR Consultant for Civic Engineers said, “Our apprentices are extremely important to us. We believe it is crucial to support young people and give them opportunities to get into industry. It is fantastic to see them grow and develop over time and we are pleased that one of our apprentices is still with us and now has the role of a Junior BIM Technician. Having apprentices within the business is also good experience for our team members. It gives them the opportunity to share their knowledge, develop their mentoring and management skills and also ensures we have a diverse range of ages within the team.”

Adam Parker, now a Junior BIM technician, initially joined Civic Engineers as an apprentice 2 years ago. He is now a Junior BIM technician and felt his time as an apprentice was of huge benefit, “My apprenticeship allowed me to gain valuable work experience which meant I could learn from colleagues and it confirmed I was working in the right industry for me. Being able to work whilst studying was challenging but it gave me a sense of security knowing I had a job and at the same time was completing my HNC (Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering) and my level 3 NVQ.”
