Ross Attrill
Project Technologist
I started in industry as an apprentice civil / structural technician, this multidisciplinary approach provided me with well-rounded experience of the built environment. As my career developed, I gained a strong interest in structural design and detailing, which would become my specialism. I have been involved as a lead technician on several large-scale projects within Scotland’s central belt, and across the UK and Ireland. My initial focus on modelling, detailing, and drawing preparation expanded quickly and I gained a thorough interest in the process element of how a technical team functions. This has led me to assisting in implementation of drawing standards, company templates, and leading internal BIM development groups.
Throughout my career, I have combined academic study alongside my work life to ensure my continual development and broaden my knowledge. This has led me to gain a HND in Civil Engineering, BSc (Hons) Environmental Civil Engineering, and I am currently studying a distance learning master’s degree in BIM and Digital Built Environments, on-course to graduate in late 2024.
I have gained numerous accolades throughout my career, including Glasgow Caledonian University’s IStructE Student prize, and more recently winning the IStructE Scotland Regional Group award for Best Technician 2023. I am a Technician Member of the ICE and have previously had a conference publication published by Arcom.
Away from BIM and Digital Technology, I can usually be found enjoying a nice meal out (or a Friday night takeaway), at the football, gym or going to gigs when I can. I love travelling and have been fortunate to visit some unbelievable places – Japan, America and the Amalfi Coast are standouts. Weekends at present typically consist of wedding planning with my partner, as we plan for our big day in 2025!
