Shay Graham
Active Travel Engineer
Hi I’m Shay, an Active Travel Engineer in the Urban Infrastructure Team in Glasgow.
I grew up in New Zealand and graduated from the University of Auckland in 2019 with a BEng (Hons), specialising in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After completing my degree, I spent four years working for Stantec as a transportation/active travel engineer in Wellington and Glasgow before joining the Civic team in 2024.
Over the course of my career, I have become passionate about working on sustainability focused projects that provide sustainable transport solutions and help facilitate healthier lifestyles. I have worked across a variety of teams, developing a diverse range of skills in many stages of project delivery and specialising in delivering active travel infrastructure.
Civic Engineers’ values are aligned closely with mine own, as I strongly believe in striving to protect and enhance our natural environment, as well as helping enable people of all ages and abilities to lead healthier and happier lives.
In my spare time I play basketball for the Renfrew Rocks and enjoy getting out and about in nature. I love hiking and have tackled a few Munros, the West Highland Way and the Affric Kintail Way. However, my favorite journeys in the outdoors have been on a bicycle – cycling the Badger Divide and sections of the Euro Velo 5 in Italy and Switzerland (including over the Swiss Alps as seen in the photo below).
