Appointed to revitalise Sale Town Centre!
Alongside Landscape Architects, Planit-IE we are proud to have been appointed by Trafford Council to develop proposals for a scheme to improve and revitalise Sale Town Centre. The purpose of the project is to rejuvenate key areas within the town centre including School Rd, Waterside Plaza and Northenden Rd, making it more attractive to visitors, residents, new and existing businesses.
This project follows the successful work both companies carried out in Altrincham Town Centre. With vacancy rates down from 30% to below 10%, Altrincham has re-established itself as a vibrant and attractive town centre. Whilst vacancy rates have remained low within Sale, the town centre would benefit from greater aesthetic appeal and the introduction of higher quality materials. A masterplan will be created that is memorable and unique, with a focus on improving:
-Public spaces and the environment
-Gateways and arrival points
-Parking and wayfinding that enables visitors to move about the town centre easily and safely
-De-cluttering of streets to create a more pleasant environment
-Linkages to Sale’s green spaces and waterway
Lindsay Humblet, Partner at Planit-IE commented, “This project is a great opportunity to develop a distinctive identity and create a fantastic town centre. We are keen to involve the local community early in the design process and hear their thoughts on what they would like to see in their town. Consultation events have already started to take place. Our aim is to create a thorough but simple solution for Sale that is robust, timeless and acts as a catalyst for economic development. As well as being functional and beautiful, the landscape will be fun, catering to children through multifunctional urban furniture that will encourage play, movement and exploration, without being childish.”
Civic Engineers Director, Paul Morris said, “This project allows us to build on the work we have already done in Altrincham and use our extensive experience to create a functional, inclusive and unique landscape for Sale. There will be considerable emphasis on sustainability with the town becoming a great example of an easy to maintain, urban nature scheme. A priority will be to ensure there is a comfortable and safe environment for pedestrians and cyclists whilst maintaining vehicular movement necessary to service the town.”
Cllr David Hopps, Executive Member for Strategic Planning said “We are delighted with the appointment of Planit-IE and Civic Engineers to prepare this public realm improvement strategy for Sale Town Centre. The team did a fantastic job with improvements to the public realm in Altrincham Town Centre and they will bring their experiences from that project and other areas to Sale. A good quality scheme like this can increase footfall, businesses and spend in a town centre and we are excited to see the final scheme as it progresses.”
