Hillhouse Road progress

The Hillhouse Road development is a 3-storey residential complex adjacent to the junction of Hillhouse Road and Wellhall Road in Hamilton, south-east of Glasgow city centre. Working for Link Group and JR Construction, we are the civil and structural engineers and fulfil the principal designer and SER certifier roles for the £3.8M project which will see 29 independent living homes split between two blocks. Construction started on site in March 2018.

Due to the lightweight nature of the panelised timber kit construction, the building is supported on mass concrete trench fill foundations with a reinforced concrete ground bearing floor slab. Load bearing timber stud walls, timber floor cassettes and timber truss roof, supported by occasional additional steels to accommodate spans, were designed by a third-party contractor and fully reviewed by us to comply with SER requirements. We were responsible for the design of the SuDS drainage system, internal blockwork walls, precast floors and supporting steelwork required to communal areas such as hallways and stairwells in addition to securing drainage discharge and roadworks consents. |The building will be finished with a brickwork façade and large feature timber window projections around juliet balconies.

The project has been on site for 32 weeks and is making progress in line with the programme. All substructure works have been completed and the superstructure is near completion. The project is due for handover in March 2019.
