London Printworks

The London Printworks is a vast former newspaper printing facility within the Canada Water masterplan area being developed by British Land. Built in the 1980s, it has lain dormant for a number of years. Our client, Broadwick Live, with a number of partners, have been transforming the building into a unique multi-purpose venue with six huge event spaces, spread over 120,000 sq ft and containing the original industrial features as a backdrop. The building is heavily soundproofed to suit the original use and so ideal for use as a music and club venue.

Civic Engineers’ have provided structural engineering appraisals of the existing buildings and designs of alterations for both short term use and long term feasibility studies where the venue is expanded and integrated with new buildings being developed by the British Land team.

Recently, one of the main hall’s opened as a 3000-person live music venue, with a show by psych-rock favourites Django Django. To adapt the space, mezzanine levels were removed to widen the main floor, high level balconies strengthened for VIP guests and the roof assessed for lighting and other rigging equipment.
