People, Places and Innovation: supporting Women in Property’s summit

We’re longstanding champions of Women in Property, and we’re supporting the network’s first ever in-person summit, ‘People, Places and Innovation’, which takes place on 13th November.

Hosted on the doorstep of our Scotland studios at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, the summit will explore the theme ‘rethinking places’. We’re looking forward to a full day of inspiring talks, challenging discussion and insightful workshops. Everyone is welcome to attend, and you can find out more and book your ticket here.

Isla Jackson,  our director in Scotland, commented: “’Rethinking places’ is a timely focus for the first People-Innovation-Place Summit. There’s so much more to be done when it comes to making our built environment more inclusive, and we have a unique opportunity to champion diverse perspectives and skills as we design our buildings and places to be climate resilient, healthier and happier.

“With our presence in Glasgow, Edinburgh and across the UK, we’re proud to support such a fantastic event focussed on empowering women and inspiring the industry. There’s lots of positive change here in Scotland to celebrate. Glasgow Council recently backed a motion that puts women, non-binary and gender fluid people at the centre of city planning and policy development, as just one example. But we must build on this and think bigger to create a better future.”

Our CEO Stephen O’Malley will join a fantastic line-up at the summit, sharing the stage with speakers including:

  • Karen Anderson, President of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland
  • Jennifer Winyard, National Chair of Women in Property
  • Suzannah Nichol OBE, CEO of Build UK
  • Dr Marie Macklin CBE, Founder and Executive Chair of HALO Urban Regeneration Company
  • Will Whitehorn, Chair of Seraphim Space Investment Trust PLC, Craneware PLC and Good Energy PLC.
  • Yvette Hopkins, Board Chair, Craft Prospect
  • Stuart Fyvie, Technical Director Fire Arrow
  • Daisy Narayanan, Director of Public Realm at Crown Estate
  • Iain Tinsdale, Senior Associate, Bennetts Associates
  • McLaughlin & Harvey with Outreach students

As part of the summit’s brilliant Fringe events, Nikki Johnston, principal engineer in our Scotland studios, will also be leading a walking tour of our project, Northfield Grove in Edinburgh on Friday 15th Nov.

Shortlisted for The Pineapples, Property Week ESG Edge and Unlock Net Zero awards, the project has revitalised a once-neglected Edinburgh housing estate, and you can read about how the climate resilient neighbourhood has improved the daily experience of the local community here.

Find out how you can join the tour of Northfield Grove here.
