New Islington Millennium Village, Manchester
This project to develop a 13 hectare site at the edge of the City Centre and East Manchester involves demolition of a1970s cul-de-sac style residential estate and construction of entirely new infrastructure and buildings. Sustainability issues are a major aspect of the project, including central heat and power and low energy usage.
We were the engineer for the masterplan and the Lead Consultant on the implementation of the Public Realm and Infrastructure Works, which include new roads, bridges, park, public spaces, canals and canal basins. The site’s 200-year industrial heritage has left a range of ground contaminants which have been treated, remediated and the ground re-used as engineered fill to adjust the existing topography to new formation levels.
Infrastructure works have been ongoing on site since 2004.
