The shortlist for the Pineapples Awards 2024 has been announced, and we’re celebrating our projects being shortlisted in five categories for their contribution to place.

The Pineapples are renowned for recognising excellence in every stage of the development, design and delivery of placemaking. The shortlist is drawn up following a rigorous judging process, drawing on the expertise of more than 40 industry leaders.

Successfully nominated projects are chosen for their social and environmental impact, and how they improve the lives of communities with different life experiences, abilities and backgrounds. This year, our projects have been shortlisted for five awards as follows:

• Shortlisted for ‘Place of the Year’ – the major regeneration of Barking’s Gascoigne Estate Phase 2 into one of London’s most liveable, sustainable neighbourhoods, with new homes, schools, community facilities, public realm and commercial spaces.
• Shortlisted for ‘Climate Resilience’ – the transformation of Northfield Grove, a social housing estate in Edinburgh, into a climate-adapted neighbourhood. The project features innovative design, attractive, multi-functional green infrastructure and sustainable rainwater drainage providing a rich environment within which residents and nature can flourish.
• Shortlisted for ‘Community Engagement’ and ‘Place of the Year’- Glade of Light, a memorial garden providing a place to honour victims of the Manchester Arena terror attack and the first in a series of public realm improvements set within the city’s historic Medieval Quarter
• Shortlisted for ‘Future Project’- milestone plans to transform Prestwich Village into a thriving heart of the community, which we’re supporting as structural, civil and transport engineers
